Coheed and Cambria Bassist Arrested for Robbing a Pharmacy

The eclectic indie rock band Coheed and Cambria is ditching its bassist -- after he was arrested for robbing a pharmacy.

Michael "Mic" Todd, 30, allegedly stole Oxycontin from a Walgreens in Attleboro, Mass., just hours before Coheed and Cambria was scheduled to open for the band Soundgarden. According to CBS News, Todd entered the store around 1 p.m. and showed the pharmacist a note on his phone, which said that he had a bomb. He took six bottles of the addictive painkiller, then fled in a cab to the Comcast Center in Mansfield (about 40 miles south of Boston).

Todd was arrested at the concert hall before the show began -- so the band had to play without him. And according to Coheed's blog, they will continue to do just that.

"Michael Todd was arrested today on what we consider very serious charges and therefore he will not be finishing up the current tour," says the band's official statement. "Wes Styles, long time member of the Coheed family will take on bass duties starting tomorrow for the remaining dates. No shows will be canceled."

The band says that the are "surprised to say the least," and plan to "address the situation with Michael after the tour."

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Todd is being charged with armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance -- after being identified by the cab driver, the pharmacist and a store surveillance video. (Didn't think that one out too well, did he?) Todd is being held on $10,000 bail and will be arraigned on Monday morning.

Coheed and Cambria is a progressive rock band with a devoted cult following. In 2005, they had minor hits with "The Suffering" and "Welcome Home." Their albums all contribute to an ongoing sci-fi story called "The Armory Wars" -- but, even with these guys, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
